2009 Massachusetts Literacy Champions Awards
Recognizing excellence in the field of literacy

If you or someone you know is an exceptional practioner of literacy at any level, or in any setting, please review the following criteria and apply or nominate someone for the Massachusetts Literacy Champions Awards today.

Nominations can come from the applicant themselves of from a professional peer in the literacy field. If the application is prepared by someone other than the nominee, nominee must be made aware of the nomination.

The Purpose
The purpose of the Literacy Champions Awards program is to identify, publicly recognize and reward Massachusetts educators who have made significant contributions in literacy education.

The Award
The Massachusetts Literacy Champions Award program encourages and enables literacy practitioners in the commonwealth to share the most promising practices with their peers. Up to ten Literacy Champions will be chosen from all entries by a panel of experts in the field. Winners will be announced in November.

Award Winners Receive

• A $2500 grant for program development.
• A $1000 grant for professional development.
• Statewide recognition as a Massachusetts Literacy Champion.
• An opportunity to collaborate as a group and share ideas.

What We Look For In a Champion
A champion is...

• a professional practitioner or trained volunteer currently active in the educational literacy field.
• someone currently involved in the creation and implementation of unique and promising literacy practices who has made a significant contribution in any of the many areas of literacy education.
• someone willing to share their best practices and work with their peers throughout the state.
• someone who is innovative and creative in their field.
• someone with outstanding leadership qualities.
